You don’t see them often on comps because most of the teams are sponsored by the great brands which have some contracts with their parts producers like shimano and sram I think. The g-boxx1 ads a bit of weight of course, but in relation of the durability and the comfort to shift every time, even non pedalling, this is secondary. Especially if you like to ride in mud, snow and ice a derailleur isn’t the right choice. I build the bike on the base to have a good durability to weight ratio. I often pedal more than 1h uphill before I reach the local downhill-tracks and so it was near to take air shock/ fork. The brake calliper is mounted right side because the chain runs on the left. This comes from the g-boxx1. The hub is in 3 pieces and the sprocket and the disc with calliper remains on the frame when you take the wheel off. You can find it on nicolai’s website. Its called COR hub. Thank you for your interest.;-)
thanks a lot. I love it more with every ride. :-)
they're not cheap, thats right. but if think that they do anything you want if its possible its worth every euro. a lot of changes on the series frames they do without extra cost. thats because the bikes are 100% handmade in the factory or in some local partners of alutech. and if you look at the prices of nicolai for example where you pay a lot more only for "perfect" weldings and where you have to pay and wait for every extra alutech is cheap. :-)
the weight of a air shock is definitly a great plus. i think it was the right choice. the shifter is the original rohloff one. i'm happy with it, you can shift from 1st to 14th gear with only 2 "grips" if needed. thats done in 1 second and is a lot faster then a trigger. and there are no parts that can break. the weight of the bike like shown here is about 19,5kg. with downhill tubes and gazza 2,6 tires. the frame with shock, G-Boxx1 with pedal arms and BB, shifter, rear hub, floating disc and headset (alutech 1,5") weights 9,6kg.
you're right, its the G-Boxx Pudel. But G-Boxx1 and not G-Boxx2 like shown on Alutech's Website. G-Boxx2 isn't useable for me because there are only 7 Gears instead of 14 (Rohloff Speedhub inside) on the G-Boxx1. The Airshock works very fine and you can fast adjust it to the Track you want to ride. This is my first Downhillbike with a floating Discbrake. and it works perfect, you don't feel any difference in the rear Suspension when you brake on rough Underground. It's the best Frame I had ever. :-)
wilden Westens natürlich...
it's a custom built frame thats not produced in series. i told alutech(www.alutech-bikes.com) what i like to have and they build it. there are only 2 bikes produced, the second one owns a friend of me. its a totally different feeling ride with this bike. no noise except the sound of the tires and sometimes the brake.
